Smoky and Spicy Snack Mix

Snack mixes become a popular item during the holidays. You can set a nice big bowl of snack mix out at parties and let people snack. They are also nice to have around for sports parties too. Some even take it on their outdoor adventures with them.

What Ingredients to Use in a Snack Mix

There are many ways you can customize a snack mix for your snacking preferences. You can add in dried fruit, candy, nuts, or different types of cereals. Our spicy snack mix is made with simple ingredients that you can find in your grocery stores. Here is a list of the ingredients you will need to make this snack mix.

  • 3 Cups Rice Cereal Squares
  • 3 Cups Wheat Cereal Squares
  • 3 Cups Corn Cereal Squares
  • 1 Cup Pretzels
  • 1 Cup Mixed Nuts
  • 6 Tablespoons Melted Butter
  • 2 Tablespoons Worcestershire Sauce
  • 1 and 1/2 Tablespoons Chugwater Chili Steak Rub (or more if you want it spicier)

How to Make a Snack Mix Sauce  

There are different sauces you can make to put on your snack mix. Our snack mix sauce is spicy and savory sauce that only uses 3 ingredients to make. This sauce can also be made in the microwave or on the stove top.

Microwave:

To make this sauce in the microwave you will need to melt 6 Tablespoons butter in microwave safe dish. Then stir in 2 Tablespoons Worcestershire sauce and 1 and 1/2 Tablespoons Chugwater Chili Steak Rub. Now your sauce will be ready to mix in with the dry snack mix ingredients.

Stove Top:

If you want to make this sauce on the stove top you will need to melt 6 Tablespoons of butter in a small saucepan. Then add in 2 Tablespoons Worcestershire sauce and 1 and 1/2 Tablespoons Chugwater Chili Steak Rub. Stir the sauce and remove from the burner.

How to Combine the Snack Mix

You will need a large microwave safe bowl to mix the ingredients in. Add 3 Cups Rice Cereal Squares, 3 Cups Wheat Cereal Squares, 3 Cups Corn Cereal Squares, 1 Cup Pretzels, and 1 Cup Mixed Nuts into the bowl. If you are sharing the snack mix at a party or even and worry about nut allergies you can skip adding in the nuts. Mix the dried ingredients together.

    Pour the sauce mixture over the dried ingredients and stir until the sauce has coated the dried ingredients. Then you are ready to cook the snack mix.

    How to Cook a Spicy Snack Mix

     For this snack mix you can cook it in the microwave. If you do not have a microwave you can also cook it in the oven. Below are directions on how to make the snack mix in the microwave or in the oven.

    Microwave Snack Mix:

    You will microwave the snack mix for around 6 minutes. Every 2 minutes you will need to take the bowl our and stir the snack mix so that all the pieces get cooked. When you pull the bowl out of the oven it might be still a little soft feeling. As it cools though it will get crispier.  

    Oven Baked Snack Mix:

    You will need to heat the oven to 250 degrees. Then pour the snack mix onto a baking sheet or dish. Bake for an hour and stir every 15 minutes to prevent burning.

    Now you are ready to serve your snack mix or bag it up to take with you on your adventures.

    How to cook Smoky and Spicy Snack Mix

    1. Melt 6 tablespoons butter in microwave safe dish.
    2. Stir in 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce and 1 and 1/2 tablespoons Chugwater Chili Steak Rub.
    3. Add cereals, nuts, and pretzels in a large microwave safe bowl. Add butter mixture and stir well.
    4. Microwave snack mix for 2 minutes. Stir contents well. Microwave an additional 2 minutes - stop and stir. Microwave an additional 1-2 minutes.
    5. The cereal crisps as it cools.
